The Bolivar Main Pump Station was constructed in 1964 and houses the Adelaide and Salisbury pumps, which pump 60% of Adelaide's wastewater into the Bolivar WWTP. The project was delivered via Early Contractor Involvement followed by a lump sum contract for the detailed design and construction work. The scope included refurbishment of a 50-year-old building, replacement of all pumps, pipework and valves, as well as the replacement of all electrical, control and SCADA systems. During the ECI process GO proposed an alternative pump and pipework layout that avoided the need for existing structural floors to be removed. This meant that the risk to the structural integrity of the building was removed, safety risk was reduced and SA Water saved $1.5 million. GO built a new electrical and control system independent of the existing one, allowing the old system to remain operational so that wastewater flows were not interrupted during the work.
