Design Manager - SA - Adelaide

About us: 
Established in 2001, Guidera O’Connor (GO) is a privately owned and respected design and construct contractor and have a successful track record delivering water and wastewater treatment projects to the Australian Water Industry. Our clients include SA Water, Water Corporation, Sydney Water and SEQ Water.

About the Role: 
The Design Manager is responsible for ensuring that all design, drafting, and close-out documentation is carried out accurately, cost effectively and in a timely manner to meet project requirements and include forming and maintaining client relationships.
You will engage, lead and coordinate consultants in the delivery of project designs in accordance with company policies and procedures.  Your strong stakeholder engagement skills and approach to customer service allows you to build positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Through considering the voice of the customer, you deliver fit-for-purpose designs that gain positive acceptance from clients and project managers. You ensure designs are delivered on time, within budget, and according to client specifications, with no rework required.

More specifically you will:

  • Engage consultants with scopes of work.
  • Effectively manage project schedules to ensure that designs are completed on time and within cost.
  • Ensure that teams are motivated and suitably resourced to effectively perform their roles.
  • Develop and maintain a close working relationship with key clients, consultants and their representatives.
  • Ensure that the design and drafting work meets the requirements of Project specifications and associated Standards.
  • Ensure that designs meet project quality, safety and environmental requirements.

As our ideal candidate you will have:

  • A bachelor’s degree in engineering or demonstrated experience of project management, preferably in the water industry. 
  • Understanding of engineering principles, tools, and practices to drive innovation. 
  • Experience leading teams.
  • Experience overseeing multidiscipline projects from concept to completion including managing budgets, schedules, and resources. 
  • An ability to effectively communicate with all stakeholders in particular, cross-functional teams
  • Experience implementing best practices, continuous improvement while mitigating all risks on projects. 
  • Current knowledge and understanding of all HSEQ obligations, while ensuring designs meet regulatory standards and client expectations.
