About the Opportunity:
We are currently seeking an experienced Commercial Manager - Bids to join our team based in Thebarton , South Australia. As the successful applicant you will play a key role in leading the commercial workstream for bid responses through the identification of contract-specific risks and opportunities. The role requires strategic thinking in designing commercial models that leverage financial drivers, optimise profit and deliver value for money to clients. A pragmatic and collaborative approach is required to deliver value to internal stakeholders, senior management and external clients and/or partners.
More specifically you will:
- Drive the design and implementation of commercial models and make recommendations on key commercial terms that align with the strategic objectives of both GO and the client
- Lead the commercial input into the bidding process, including undertaking the review of complex contracts and participating in tender reviews
- Proactively assess commercial and contractual risks and opportunities, identify and implement appropriate controls and mitigants for project risks and escalate actual or potential issues to the National Commercial and Procurement Manager and Executive – New Business
- Prepare commercial clarifications and then formulate contractual departures to align contract terms with risk appetite
- Lead tender negotiations with clients and partners throughout Australia to secure favourable terms (regular travel required)
- Act as the commercial point of contact to engage with and influence internal teams and external partners for bidding purposes
- Prepare and develop contract management tools, including contract management plans to capture commercial and risk mitigation strategies for handover to delivery teams
- Provide support on contractual interpretation and rights and obligations under the relevant head contracts pre-contracts and in delivery
As our ideal candidate you will have:
- A bachelor’s degree in business, law, construction, project management, quantity surveying or a related field or equivalent experience.
- Significant experience in commercial management or in-house legal or a related role, preferably in bidding/tendering and in the construction or an engineering related industry.
- Strong understanding of contract law, relevant legislation and procurement rules and familiarity with complex contracts and commercial documentation
- Highly developed commercial acumen with experience with a variety of commercial frameworks/pricing models and understanding of risk allocation and financial matters
- Excellent written and verbal communication and influencing skills with the ability to build and maintain strong stakeholder relationships.
- A proven track record in negotiating contracts and achieving favourable terms and within risk appetite
- Exceptional problem-solving and an analytical mindset to identify risks or inconsistencies in contracts
- Strong organisational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple tendering/ bidding activities.
- Attention to detail with high level of accuracy
